Can someone please tell me a simple -install line and a simple send
line for using blat with Yahoo mail. I keep getting the message:

Login name is danmoffet
The mail server doesn't like the sender name,
have you set your mail address correctly?
Error: Connection to mailserver was dropped.

You don't address this point, but you do know that sending and receiving
mail via SMTP requires paying a fee, don't you? It had been free until May
or so of this year.

If you haven't forked over the cash, that's what the problem is.

Well that is the problem then because I haven't paid a dime for the
email address.

Do you know where to purchase the SMTP service?

It's rather pricey, at $30/year. Here's the URL for a Yahoo Mail FAQ
answer that addresses
this: http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/mdom/mdom-26.html . Click on
"POP Access and Forwarding", and that will take you to the sign-up link.

I think I would talk to a local ISP about an email-only account, which can
be sometimes had fairly cheaply.

You can sign up within your Yahoo Mail....click on "Mail Options" and then
"POP Access and Forwarding" you'll get all the info there.

Thanks,

Brett

If you're only looking to send email outbound, all most any ISP will allow
you to use their outbound SMTP gateway for free as long as you're a part of
their physical network.

Brett makes a good point here, one that I overlooked.

Whatever way you're getting onto the Internet, there's probably an
associated SMTP server. For example, my ISP is Smart.Net. Because I'm
logged into the Smart.Net domain to access the Internet, I could point my
copy of Blat at Smart.Net's SMTP servers and send my mail that way.

Only if you had Internet access with no Internet mail capabilities would
you HAVE to use a third party SMTP service.
